Warner/Chappell Music Signs Publishing Deal With Alexander Armstrong

Warner/Chappell Music, the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group, has signed a worldwide publishing deal with Alexander Armstrong.

Originally known as a popular TV presenter, comedian and actor, Armstrong has also become renowned for his singing ability and is a classically trained bass baritone.  He has released three studio albums through Warner Music’s East West label.

Mike Smith, Managing Director, Warner/Chappell Music UK said: “Alexander is an amazing all round talent.  He is someone who has excelled at everything he’s done - be that comedy, acting or his incredible singing and now he’s adding songwriting to that list.  He’s been writing some really great stuff and will be a terrific addition to the Warner/Chappell family.”

Alexander Armstrong added: “It’s been amazing to return to music over the last few years and it feels like the right time to start singing some of my own songs.  Chappell felt like the perfect home to help develop my writing.  I’m excited to get to work with Mike and his team.”

Growing up, Armstrong was a chorister at St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral from the age of 11 to 13.  He went on to gain a music scholarship at Durham School and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he played the piano, cello and oboe, as well as singing bass baritone as a choral scholar with the college choir.

After graduating, Armstrong moved to London to pursue a career in acting and comedy.  It was around this time he met Ben Miller, with whom he went on to create the BAFTA award winning TV series The Armstrong and Miller Show.  In 2009, Armstrong became the presenter of the hugely popular BBC One quiz show Pointless

In 2015, Armstrong signed a recording contract with East West Records, releasing his debut album A Year In Songs later that year.  The album was a huge success, charting at number six on the UK Albums Chart and number one on the Official Classical Artist Albums Chart– making Armstrong the first actor and comedian to top the Classical Chart.  He released his second album, Upon A Different Shore, a year later, charting at number eight, before releasing In A Winter Light, a Christmas album, in 2017.
