On Thursday 8th March, Warner/Chappell Music UK and Warner/Chappell Nashville hosted an event to showcase their incredible songwriters. The event, in partnership with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), was held at the east London’s night spot, Old Street Records.
Guests got the rare chance to hear the stories behind huge number ones and were treated to amazing performances from Adam Argyle, Twinnie, Johan Fransson, Heather Morgan, Leslie Satcher, Ryan Kinder and Iain James.
The last performance of the night came from Amy Wadge, who played a beautifully stripped back version of ‘Consequences’, which she wrote for Camila Cabello’s platinum-selling debut album. Wadge then introduced her final song as ‘the song that changed my life’ before leading the audience in a singalong of ‘Thinking Out Loud’ which she co-wrote for Ed Sheeran’s X album.
The evening was co-hosted by Mike Smith, Managing Director of Warner/Chappell Music UK, and Alicia Pruitt, SVP, A&R, Warner/Chappell Nashville.
Mike Smith says: “It’s common in Nashville to host these types of intimate showcases frequently and it’s something I’m determined to do more of in the UK. Every time I hear these fantastic Nashville artists I’m completely blown away. Their songwriting is without doubt some of the best in the world and the talent on show was just incredible. I’d like to thank Alicia and her team, as well as ASCAP, for helping put on the event, and all our songwriters who gave us a truly special night.”
