Warner/Chappell Signs Publishing Deal with Andy Burrows

BAFTA-nominated songwriter Andy Burrows has signed a worldwide deal with Warner/Chappell Music (WCM), the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group.

Burrows first found fame as the drummer in the British indie rock band Razorlight.  He has gone on to pursue a wide range of music projects, from co-writing the soundtrack for the film The Snowman and The Snowdog to co-producing the soundtrack for the movie David Brent: Life on The Road, in which he also starred.  Current projects include a planned solo LP and several songs for Tom Odell’s third studio album.

Andy Burrows says:  “I’m so pleased to be working with Mike and the team at Warner/Chappell.  They have a great reputation for helping nurture songwriters’ careers.  I’ve got a lot of projects on the go at the moment, and Warner/Chappell is well placed to help support me.”

Mike Smith,
Managing Director, WCM UK, adds: “Andy is amongst the most charming, talented and well connected songwriters out there.  From the classic songs he wrote in Razorlight, to the tunes he has written with Tom Odell, to his work in film and television, not to mention his diverse solo career, he remains one of the hardest working and inventive writers in the UK.”

Burrows began his career as a songwriter during his days in Razorlight, when he co-wrote songs for the band, including ‘America,’ which was a No. 1 hit in the UK.  He went on to spend time in New York drumming with the band We Are Scientists, helping co-write their albums Barbara (2010) and TV en

He has separately co-written and released five studio albums – The Colour Of My Dreams (2008); Sun Comes Up Again (2010) under the name I Am Arrows; Funny Looking Angels (2011) with Editors’ Tom Smith; Company (2012); and Fall Together Again (2014).

Other projects included writing the soundtrack for the 2012 Channel 4 film The Snowman and The Snowdog, in collaboration with composer Ilan Eshkeri.  The soundtrack, which was nominated for a BAFTA, was recorded at Abbey Road by the London Metropolitan Orchestra and musical collaborators including Dom Howard, Tom Odell and Tim Wheeler.

Andy co-produced the soundtrack for the Ricky Gervais film David Brent: Life on The Road, also appearing in the film as the drummer in the fictional band Foregone Conclusion.  He contributed to songs on the album, including ‘Cards We’re Dealt’ which featured vocals from Ben Bailey Smith.

He is a long-time musical collaborator with Warner/Chappell songwriter Tom Odell, co-writing the track ‘Sirens’ on Odell's debut album, Long Way Down, and the songs ‘Constellations’ and ‘Here I Am’ from his follow-up title, Wrong Crowd.  He has four cuts on Odell’s upcoming album, which is expected to be released next summer.

Andy has also written with other musicians, including recently Jamie Lawson, with whom he wrote the song ‘Falling in Love,’ which will feature on Lawson’s album Happy Accidents, set to be released later this month.

He is current working on a number of other writer collaborations, as well as his own forthcoming studio album.  Lyrics for the songs on the LP are being contributed by his friend Matt Haig, the best-selling author, and are loosely based on his books How To Stop Time and Reasons To Stay Alive.  Andy is producing his new album with Tim Baxter, who previously worked with him on his album Company
