Warner/Chappell Music (WCM) today announced the appointment of Rob Owen to its UK team as VP, Creative, Catalogue and Marketing. His appointment is effective from 31st July and he will report to Mike Smith, Managing Director, Warner/Chappell UK.
Owen is a senior marketing executive with more than 17 years’ experience in the music and entertainment industry. In this newly created role, he will be championing Warner/Chappell’s iconic catalogue of songwriting which ranges from Rod Temperton to Led Zeppelin.

Owen began his career in 1999 working in a series of marketing and product roles for EMI Catalogue, looking after a wide ranging roster of acts that included David Axelrod, Dexy’s Midnight Runners, ELO, Glen Campbell, NEU!, Peter Gabriel, The Band, The Beach Boys and The Specials, through to film soundtracks, TV Compilations, the Stateside label and joint venture projects.
He subsequently joined Parlophone Records in 2003 as a Senior Product Manager and rose through the ranks to become Marketing Director in 2008. During this time, he worked on campaigns for the label’s artists including Babyshambles, Gorillaz, Graham Coxon, John Lennon, Kylie Minogue, Lily Allen, Sir Paul McCartney, Queen, Sigur Ros, The Beatles and The Good, the Bad and the Queen. He was also Label Manager for Regal Recordings and Honest Jon’s Records during this period.
Parlophone appointed Owen as Vice President, Marketing in 2010. In this role, he managed the label’s marketing team, overseeing a roster that included new signings as well as established acts including Bat For Lashes, Blur, Coldplay, Damon Albarn, Danger Mouse, David Guetta, DeadMau5, Gorillaz, Kylie Minogue, Iron Maiden, LCD Soundsystem, Paul Weller, Richard Hawley, Tinie Tempah and many more. He helped shape and deliver successful and innovative campaigns on multiple platforms. Successes included the breaking of artists including Eliza Doolittle, Gabrielle Aplin and Tinie Tempah.
Owen and his team were nominated for and won Music Week’s Marketing Campaign of the Year several times for their work with Coldplay, Gorillaz, Lily Allen and Tinie Tempah.
He left Parlophone in 2015 and set up his own management and marketing consultancy, developing a broad roster of artists, producers and writers. Marketing consultancies included heading up the strategic marketing and digital optimisation processes for events such as The Secret Garden Party festival, and music management company Closer Artists amongst others.
